French-born pianist and composer Georges Bizet was active from the 1850s until his death in 1875. He received his musical education in Paris, and is considered to be one of the great Romantic composers to have ever lived. He composed a number of symphonies and operas that gained great artistic acclaim and are still performed to this day. His most famous work since his death remains to be Carmen - a revelatory opera comique about a roguish gypsy girl. His treatment of the subject matter mixed traditionally separate elements in the operatic sphere, additionally advancing the verismo movement, championing realism in dramatic representation.

Francis Poulenc is a revolutionary French composer, responsible for helping shape a new post-Impressionist, post-Wagnerian era in French music. He composed in a broad range of genres, and was known in his career to be "half monk, half delinquent," a title given to him by a French critic. He was a member of a group of artists from that time known as Les Six, noted for their musical breakthroughs at the time. Poulenc's breadth of work includes ballets, operas, chamber music and compositions for piano and strings.

Being a perfectionist undoubtedly played a large role in the way Johannes Brahms composed his classical songs. He is known to have taken a significant amount of time with his works and is even rumored to have destroyed finished pieces because he felt they didn't live up to their potential. This adherence to perfection played out well in his compositions, and his academic arrangements are extremely intellectual and ingenious. The Austrian musician is regarded for his vast impact on romantic music and is oftentimes grouped with and compared to Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven, as one of the Three Bs.
