Julius Caesar
Sacramento Theatre Company - Mainstage TheatreMarch 06, 2015 8:00 PM
1419 H Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
Deep in the heart of the capital, a murderous political intrigue unfolds as the Sacramento Theatre Company stages "Julius Caesar", the Shakespeare "history play" that remains intensely relevant to contemporary audiences. More scandalous than "Scandal" and more devious than "House of Cards", "Julius Caesar" finds its title character locked in a life-and-death struggle for power with his former "friends, Romans, countrymen," Brutus, Casca and Cassius. But in this staging of the play, Cassius and Casca will be played by women and the whole production will be set in a hypothetical near-future America. The actions of these friends-turned-conspirators set off a civil war at the dawn of the Roman Empire in the original telling, and in this modern version you'll get to see what happens when celebrity and politics are blurred and money matters more than policy.

Elvin Bishop Tommy Castro & Bettye Lavette
Crest TheatreMarch 06, 2015 7:30 PM
1013 K Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
Though he's really only remembered for one major hit--1976's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love"--Elvin Bishop has been kicking around the American blues rock scene since the early 1960s. Born in Southern California in 1942, be became fascinated with the blues as a child by listening to it on the radio. When he grew up, he took to the guitar and began to play in bands in his late teens and early 20s. His passion took him to Chicago, where he immersed himself in the city's historic blues scene. Eventually, Bishop paired up with the Butterfield Blues Band, which is now regarded as one of the first bands to meld blues and rock music together. Throughout the 1970s, he regularly performed with legends of the genre, including Eric Clapton and B.B. King. His aforementioned hit single resonated strongly with radio listeners and peaked at number three on the Billboard charts.
