Frankfurt am Main, 60386
The Riederwald-Siedlung was one of the first "modern" housing estates to be built in Germany. The settlement was built between 1910 and 1928 and is a fascinating example of early 20th Century urban planning and architecture. The estate is divided into three different sections with very different styles. The first section is dominated by a group of two-story semi-detached houses which are characterised by attic roofs and bay windows. The second section consists of small flats built from brick in the expressionist style. The plaster buildings in the third section (1925-1928), with their pronounced wooden roofs and tinted façades, are typical of the so-called neue Bauen architecture which can be seen all over Germany.
