Bars & Cafes
Two floors of fun, an outdoor patio and fully stocked bar make this lively waterhole popular among local and international clientele. Cheap, stiff drinks reign supreme here, so it tends to attract the local exchange students. The location can't be beat, along the Sanlitun pub crawl.
Located in the Chao Yang District this bar is the heart and soul of the busy street. Inside the bar is decorated with metal shades and bright and cool colors. There is also a catwalk in between tables where regular fashion shows are held . The background music makes the ambiance rich , since this bar is a favorite among locals it is most of the time crowded. Local Bands also perform at the bar, the food served here is decent but what the people come here for is the music and the liquor, not to mention the fashion shows.
Along the beaten path of the Sanlitun strip of bars and eateries, Jazz Ya is a chic bar and restaurant well worth visiting. Dim lights, wooden accents and large tables are ideal for large groups and the pulsing music is always rocking. The Chinese-style pub grub is above par and an excellent accompaniment to their almost lethal drinks.
Located on the bar stretch on San Li Tun street, Jazz Bar is popular amongst Beijing jazz lovers. The musicians playing the saxophone are not seen as bourgeois anymore. Beijing is no alien to the jazz culture but only recently the popularity has increased with new jazz bars coming up throughout the city. The Jazz Bar is small but promising venue in Beijing's buzzing jazz scene.
Schiller's III, a bigger and better version of the original Schiller's I, is part of the bar-cluster around Chao Yang Park's west gate. It is a German-style pub, featuring a live Filipino cover band, darts and sports television. The clientele is mainly international types and business people. Chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and samosas, along with salads, steaks, burgers and traditional German dishes fill the menu.
From the Japanese proprietors of the funky and mellow Jazz Ya bar on San Li Tun Bar Street comes the equally funky and mellow Sushi Ya. Canvas chairs and glass-topped tables are spaced comfortably in the small dining space. A large sushi bar takes up the center. Outside is a covered patio for dining in the warmer months. While the focus is on sushi and sashimi, there are western dishes such as pasta and deep fried goodies. There is an extensive drinks list, as well as an assortment of sake.
The Shanghai burger joint quickly became a popular hang-out for families, young professionals and groups of friends. Blue Frog is famous for serving fresh and tasty classic diner dishes such as sandwiches, burgers, steaks and salads. The restaurant and bar has a range of deals including 2 for 1 burgers on Mondays plus a buy one get one free happy hour from 4p-8p. Blue Frog's large outdoor terrace overlooks Sanlitun Village, offering pleasant al fresco dining during the warm summer months. -Jennifer Pooley
Rickshaw is a 24 hour pub that serves a little of everything. Items on the menu range from burritos, to chicken pot pie, to kuai pancakes and fried Snicker's bars. None of it is great, but who cares at 2 in the morning? The decor is low-key with diner-style booths and not much else, and the staff is very friendly. With reasonable prices, Rickshaw is the perfect stop for tired and hungry revelers to wind-up the night.
Havana is Latino-inspired, serving up South American music, food and drinks in a laid back setting. With a dance floor, bar, and beer garden, it attracts mainly the twenty-something set. The dim, smoky and humid interior definitely attests to the hot Central-American feel. Loud, sultry Latin rhythms pulsate, inspiring many to groove on the small dance floor. It serves up South American-influenced food with an emphasis on barbecued meats. You can order a selection of grilled meats and other goodies to go with your beer or cocktails in the comfortable beer garden. Prices for food are quite reasonable.

Sought after by bar lovers throughout the world, The Saddle has a reputation for making food with quality fresh ingredients. The bar itself is modest with sienna tones, but the food is certainly worth mentioning. With 5 different Tequilas, fabulous margaritas sold by the pitcher, mouth watering burritos, and do it yourself guacamole it's no wonder it's so popular amongst the Sanlitun weekend crowds.
As both a bar and a restaurant, this place caters for those who want to dine out, or for those beginning a night on the town. In summer and spring the outdoor facilities are pleasant. A very open architectural philosophy — tables are spaced comfortably apart and the retro design provides a relaxed atmosphere. A fantastic salad menu including “Salade aux lardons” and “Salade de landaise”. Comprehensive beer range from the local Tsing Tao to the English Woodpecker Cider.
