Fusing the sounds of Chicago's electronic landscape in the early 2000s with the deep house of New York City's scene, San Soda is a Belgian producer and the face of We Play Recordings, a label he founded with his partner in crime, Red D. Soda's dance singles are always slickly produced and maintain strong melodic vocal hooks throughout, an element no doubt lifted from his parents' tendency to raise him on a strict regimen of the Beatles and classic rock radio. He's recently taken to performing around Western Europe, including at various music festivals, which will no doubt increase those who'll be looking to hunt down his soulful and meticulously crafted dance tracks.

Located in the northwest suburbs, 80 kilometers from the city proper, Longqing Gorge is a natural scenic spot blending the gracefulness of southern China with the north's power and grandeur. Due to shade from mountains towering on both sides the area has an annual ice period of four months, providing the ideal venue for an ice-lantern festival. Each year during the festival about 80 groups of ice lanterns, ice-and-snow sculptures and ice slides are displayed along 300 meters of the gorge. Colorful lighting adds to the fun of evening visits.

Born in the New York no-wave scene of the early 1980s, Swans is a post punk band led by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Gira. Though the band remained a well kept secret of the underground music scene, the group went on to influence several experimental and art rock groups in the subsequent decades. With spooky instrumentals and baneful vocals, Swans creates an extremely menacing style of music that has been kept alive by its cult-like following. Though the band has experienced a large amount of line up changes and even broke up in 1997, Swans reformed in 2010 and began to once again spread its no wave sound to a new generation of fans.

Celebrated on the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar, this major annual event is known as the Spring Festival by the Chinese, and is normally said to last until the Lantern Festival fifteen days later. There is a week's public holiday, and all take part in public and private celebrations. Highlights include the Temple Fairs that take place in temples and parks all over the city. Beware, China's infrastructure is stretched to its limits during this period, as 1.3 billion people strive to spend the festive period with their families.
