»Chimaira, The Plot In You, Upon This Dawning , Below The Tide

    August 10, 2014 5:30 PM

Chimaira is a heavy metal band based in Cleveland, Ohio that formed in 1998. The band's name is derived from the Greek mythological creature, the Chimera--a word which has also come to mean something of a foolish fantasy. However, Chimaira's dreams of success as a band was far from a foolish fantasy; with over a decade of successful touring and recording as a heavy metal act in the United States, critics and fans alike have placed the band near the forefront of American heavy metal's New Wave.

    »Jackyl

    August 17, 2014 6:30 PM

Jackyl is a Southern rock/metal band from Kennesaw, Georgia that is perhaps best known for its innovative track "The Lumberjack," which features a chainsaw solo in the place of more traditional rock instruments. Taking a more controversial approach to promoting its eponymous debut album, when K-Mart refused to sell the album due to its suggestive content and songs such as "She Loves My Cock," the members of Jackyl set up outside of a K-Mart location and gave an impromptu concert in response. Jackyl has since become quite a cult favorite since its debut in 1990, and is regularly featured on television and at festivals throughout the US.

    »Jack Johnson

    August 24, 2014

Hawaiian native Jack Johnson started his career as a professional surfer until a serious accident left him reconsidering his intended career path. Choosing instead to attend school at the University of California Santa Barbara, Johnson studied cinematography while teaching himself the guitar in his spare time. After graduating, he directed a surf documentary with some friends, utilizing many of his original songs in the soundtrack. This grabbed the attention not only of the surf world, but also the producer known for launching Ben Harper's career J.P. Plunier. With Plunier's help, Johnson released his 2001 debut album, BrushfireFairytales, and the LP,full of breezy surf bum acoustic ditties, helped win him mainstream success.

    August 26, 2014 6:00 PM

When a young South African named Dave Matthews was living in Charlottesville, Virginia, he began writing songs on his acoustic guitar in the late 1980s and soon started to attract the interest of local musicians who were looking for an interesting project to invest their time in. After the band honed its skills and released a demo of jazz, blues and jam fusion tunes, the troupe brought its show on the road to much commercial and critical acclaim. The group--the Dave Matthews Band--has since become one of America's more beloved acts, and people are typically struck by the band's intense performances during the group's summer tours.

    September 05, 2014

Steve Poltz is a Canadian-born folk singer/songwriter based in San Diego whose success as a founding member of the indie rock band The Rugburns was somewhat overshadowed by his work with famed folk pop singer Jewel during the late 1990s. Poltz would release several critically-acclaimed albums after his debut album One Left Shoe was released in 1998, which, in conjunction with his work with Jewel and The Rugburns, earned him the title of "San Diego's Most Influential Artist of the Decade" at the 2000 San Diego Music Awards.

    »Heart

    September 22, 2014 6:00 PM

Heart was one of the first mainstream rock bands where women were in complete creative control. That being said, it's hard to downplay the legacy that the band has left in its wake. The group rose to success in the mid '70s with a slew of radio friendly hits that boosted the group to international stardom and even though the Seattle, Washington-based group has seen its fair share of music business woes, Heart is still performing. Little known fact: several bands from the Seattle grunge scene (including Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam) recorded at Heart's Bad Animals recording studio in Seattle, further proving the influence Heart continues to have on the music industry.
