Berlin is a landlocked city, over 150 miles from the sea. But Roter Sand serves up the freshest fish imaginable, thanks to modern means of transportation and the restaurant's own lobster pool. The restaurant offers all conceivable types of fish and seafood from tiny freshwater inhabitants to deep sea giants, cooked according to traditional German, Mediterranean or Scandinavian recipes. The ambience is pleasant, the decor typically Scandinavian. The Helgoland lobster soup is particularly tasty. The lobster with sauce Bernaise is extremely fresh and accordingly delicious with a bottle of Beaujolais.

A popular breakfast destination on Viktoria-Luise-Platz, where people gather in the late afternoon to brunch. The vast menu encompasses culinary delights from all around the world. As the name suggests, this is a place with an international flavour; offering breakfast from all four corners of the world. Whilst the marvellous Viktoria-Luise-Platz is one of the relics of classicism, the Montevideo is a relic of the eighties with its cool stylish design. On weekdays young teens from the neighbouring Lette-Verein, the design-school, have their coffee-break here and at the weekend Berliners take their visitors out for breakfast and brunch.
Whether its as simple as an anchovy or as lavish as swordfish, Portugal and Spain truly have a love affair with their seafood. Both culinary traditions use quality ingredients, however there are striking differences when it comes to the preparation of the dishes. The best way to know these differences is to visit La Sepia and find out for yourself. The dainty establishment, located just off the Kurfürstendamm, seduces its guests with the finest of seafood specialties and lets you experience a Mediterranean flair that's complimented with a fine list of Portuguese and Spanish wines. The interior has a rustic and simple ambiance combined with a palette of warm, relaxing tones of orange and yellow. The atmosphere is sultry and very Portuguese”. Reservations are recommended.
This is undoubtedly one of the top restaurants in town. Guests can choose à la carte or go for one of the set 5-8 course menus. The decor is traditional yet elegant, the service attentive and friendly. Prices reflect the fact that that this really is a top-end establishment. A cheaper alternative is to head to the next-door bistro, where the food is equally delicious, but the prices significantly lower.
This restaurant and wine cellar stands for exclusive French- Mediterranean cuisine. In an elegant, romantic and delightful atmosphere, dining guests will be served gourmet menu courses. In Berlin-St. Moritz's kitchen, head chef Patrick Bolte uses the finest ingredients and seasonal specialties for his soups, hors d'oevres and main courses. Not too many dishes can be found on the menu; however, everything is prepared under high-quality standards and follows a cooking ritual. Paintings of Xavier Delerue decorate the walls and guests can enjoy their meals on the over-roofed terrace during the summer time. The wine list, with selections from Germany, Italy, Spain & France, is equally impressive and underlines the restaurant at its high standards once more.
Some people would say that April is too plain, too simple. But others would praise its unobtrusive elegance and point to the wonderful art nouveau chandeliers. Located just a short distance away from Winterfeldplatz, a busy square famous for its trendy bars, bookshops, antique shops and weekend market, April is popular at every time of day: people flock here for breakfast, for an afternoon coffee and cake, or for a warm meal in the evening.
In the golden times when Berlin was still an island and everything was still alright, this restaurant was a big chain and famous for it's cheap and simple local dishes. Today, when the wall has been down for many years, the chain has almost disappeared and prices have risen, but the food is still "jut und nischt zu meckern" (good and nothing to complain about), as the typical Berliner might say. The range of starters is rather modest, but there is quite a good salad dish with turkey slices for EUR7. Main dishes are, however, more usually EUR4-EUR11.
The Steingarten is a beautiful spot with a small waterfall, a babbling brook and exotic plants. Located in the courtyard of the otherwise drab Hotel Berlin, this is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a good barbecue and a couple of beers. Events and special offers for children are organised at the weekend.
This Viennese coffee house is located in a trendy area near Winterfeldplatz and is a popular haunt for younger people. Like many Berlin cafes, Café Berio opens out onto the street during the summer. You could try one of the ten different breakfasts, which are of a good size as well as good value. Hot meals are also served. The cakes are the specialty of the establishment, which also produces its own home-made ice cream in the summer months.
