The exterior of this Mecca for jazz-lovers is decorated with LP-covers, with great stars from the jazz-era and onwards. You get something of a retro feeling looking at it, as you do when you browse through some of their records. Other genres are covered here as well, like classical music, schlager, pop and rock on CD and LP. There is a lot of literature related to music and other books.
The Wettergrens chain has multiple branches in Gothenburg including those on Västra Hamngatan, Nordstan, Frölunda Torg and Backaplan. Here you will also find plenty of office materials, such as writing pads, binders and folders. Students get bulk discounts. Kårhuset is situated on Götabergsgatan, just off Avenyn.
This pearl of an antique dealer, with its wide selection of literature, is on the corner of Kristinelundsgatan and Teatergatan. A large yet cozy room with homely shelves, chairs and tables, Antiquaria Bok- och Bild Antikvariat holds books on just about everything, including philosophy, politics and music. The chance of finding rarities is pretty high at Dirty Records, once you find it in its central yet anonymous location on Chalmersgatan (parallel to Avenyn). The interior has posters and other memorabilia, and contains rare records from both well-known and unknown artists. The selection on vinyl should please anyone who still has a record player. This place truly has a high cult factor. No credit cards are accepted.
Kungportsavenyn, or Avenyn as it is commonly known, is the big parade street in Gothenburg, which goes all the way from Kungportsplatsen up to Götaplatsen. Avenyn is packed with cafes, restaurants, pubs, nightclubs and shops. The City Library is located just below Götaplatsen.
