Close to the French capital in proximity but dissimilar to it in cityscape, Longjumeau is a countryside panorama of fields. Not only praised for its natural beauty, this town was one of the first to be named a Fair Trade Town, along with recognition for its outstanding standards of communal ecology; the Longjumellois know how to take care of their commune. In the summer, outdoor movie showings happen every so often at the Nativelle Park, as well as music festivals. Be sure to check out what is going on during your visit!
Constructed by the architect Mario Botta in 1995, the Cathédrale d'Evry challenges accepted norms of architecture while respecting the traditional symbolism of the Catholic church. The triangular roof and three large entrances each represent the Holy Trinity while 12 stained glass windows represent the apostles, although the images depicted are abstract. Constructed of brick, the placement of windows and latticework allows natural light to penetrate the interior space. The cylindrical form of the building is reminiscent of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), designed by Botta around the same time. The similarity is extended inside the Cathédrale, which holds a museum as well as artworks including a 16th-century statue of the Virgin, tapestries, and modern religious sculpture.

To get from Orly to Paris or vice-versa in about half an hour, take a taxi (EUR35) or the RER C (and airport shuttle from/to the station); to get there in an hour or so, take an Orlybus (EUR8) to Denfert-Rochereau or an Air France coach (EUR7) to Les Invalides. Timings vary greatly according to time of day, season, etc.

The Cathédrale Saint Spire is the only religious building which remains today of the neighborhood of Corbeil-Essonnes. The first church on the site dates to the year 957, but was destroyed by fire several times until the current structure was built in 1437. A monumental entrance way which was once part of the monastery built during the 14th Century sits before the cathedral, giving it an imposing presence. Some remains of mural paintings from the 14th and 15th Centuries are still visible, and the decoration as a whole is representative of the Gothic style popular at the time.
Eglise Notre Dame de la Merci (Church of Our Lady Mercy) is a modern parish church built in 1961 under the guidance of Jean Popot, the pastor of Fresno. Located few yards away from the Eglise St-Éloi, the church provides a much larger space for daily prayer services and community events. The altar at the center of the choir is made up of black marble and so is the pulpit of the church. You can also find beautiful ceramic sculptures which are pieces of religious art. Besides, classical concert events are regularly held inside the church. Call for more information.
