    »The Black Keys

    September 18, 2014 8:00 PM

Akron, Ohio-based duo The Black Keys has been doing a noble job of blending blues with modern rock since its formation in 2001. The garage/blues rock sound the band has been cranking out since its 2002 debut LP, The Big Come Up, is hard-hitting and reminiscent of the days when bands didn't need computers to make music. Though blues has influenced nearly every musical genre of the 20th and 21st centuries, The Black Keys often pay homage to the genre with twangy guitar licks and riff-driven rhythms--bringing blues to the forefront of its indie rock sound.

    »Pop Montreal

    September 18, 2014

This festival applies the city's motto of "well-being through harmony," or concordia calus, to the international art community. Though the main attraction of Pop Montreal is undoubtedly the some 600 musicians and bands who grace the many venues and stages around town, music is not the only draw; in fact, a big mission of the festival is to provide a meeting ground and sort of soap box for emerging artists, filmmakers, fashion designers and more. The umbrella that is Pop Montreal includes such sub-events as Art Pop, Film Pop, Kids Pop, Puces Pop (fashion) and Symposium. As dates, venues and times vary greatly, it is high recommended that you refer to the event's website for detailed information.
