    »Alcove Sports Lounge

This stout building, with its low walls and domed roof, looks strangely out of place among the hotels on the Banff Trail Strip. The unique architecture houses a common room with overstuffed chairs and a high octagonal ceiling. There are also two smaller rooms containing video lottery terminals, several dart boards and a pool table. Alcove Sports Lounge has a different special daily, from Shrimp Fridays to Wing Wednesdays.

The snazzy club is the place to be during, at half time or post the famed Stampeders Football game. However since Red & White Club is a 'members only' club, an entry here would mean that you would have to be part of the elite group. Located north of the renowned McMahon Stadium, the club serves up some scrumptious snacks and delectable cocktails. Membership can be purchased, call ahead for further inquiries.

    »Bert's Mountain Mecca Cafe

This no-frills diner on the Trans-Canada Highway looks like it might blow over in a strong wind. Still, it is a charming place to stop for a roadside feed. Mecca's breakfast menu offers the expected array of eggy morning fare, including the enormous Griz platter: three eggs, ham, sausage, hash browns, pancakes and toast. For lunch and dinner, try a tasty burger or sandwiches. There is little in the way of decor, but since most folks are stopping en route to the majestic Rocky Mountains, nobody seems to mind.
