Beginning his career as a Jamaican solo artist, Mykal Rose caught the attention of reggae group Black Uhuru, who were in need of a new singer in 1977. Because of his wide vocal range and songwriting ability, Rose is credited with leading Black Uhuru to international fame. Though Rose left the group in the early 80s to start a coffee farm and disappeared off the radar for quite some time, Rose reemerged on the world music scene in the early 90s after signing a solo record deal with RCA. Since then Mykal Rose has continued to tour and release new material internationally.

A quintessential group during the synthpop days of the 1980s, The Thompson Twins scored some of the era's most successful hit singles. The group formed in London in 1977, after Tom Bailey, a classical pianist, and Joe Leeway, a struggling actor, met and developed a friendship. In 1981, the band signed to Arista Records and released its debut LP. It wouldn't be until 1984, however, that the band would score its first breakthrough hit with "Hold Me Now," a track that exposed the burgeoning "New Romantic" scene in England to international audiences. Over the years, The Thompson Twins would release several more hit singles, all full of the sappy synthesizer work and lovesick lyrical themes it'd built its name upon.
