Founded by New York City-based recorder players Daphna Mor and Nina Stern, East of the River is an early music project that explores haunting and virtuosic melodies from the traditional repertoires of the Mediterranean, the Balkans, Armenia and the Middle East. Performed by Stern, Mor and their ensemble of other stellar musicians whose backgrounds include classical, jazz and world music, these songs and dances make for a unique early music experience. This concert will feature works from East of the River's recording, "Levantera", an album tracing the music of those extraordinary cultures, the origins of which go back centuries. Experience this fascinating and beautiful repertory, much of which is little known to today's audiences.
