When the New Orleans-based group Hot 8 Brass Band formed in 1995, the ensemble was initially confined to performances during second line parades, traditional jazz funerals and jazz night clubs. After the tragedy that was Hurricane Katrina befell The Big Easy, the band received international attention after it appeared in Spike Lee's documentary on the aftermath and governmental follow-up to the hurricane. Hot 8 Brass Band also performed several times on National Public Radio, which helped establish the group as one of the premier New Orleans marching band acts that's able to blend elements of hip-hop, funk and blues into its characteristic jazz sound.
Water Liars is a folk rock band from Pittsboro, Mississippi that's composed of two longtime friends and collaborators who made Water Liars' debut album by accident over the course of three days, appropriately naming the recordPhantom Limbwhen it came time to release it in 2011. After developing a following and solidifying its sound with a succession of live shows, the band recorded its sophomore effort, Wyoming, in 2013, this timereleasing the LP with complete purpose on Big Legal Mess and Fat Possum Records.
Based on Dave Barry and Ridley Pearsn's 2006 novel of a similar name, Peter and the Starcatcher is a musical theater production that follows the backstory of Peter Pan before his more famous adventures with Wendy Darling and her brothers. After premiering at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2009, the show moved to Off-Broadway in 2011 and made its Broadway debut at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in 2012.
