The huge oak trees along a two-mile strip of New Orleans' historic City Park are loaded with more than two million twinkling lights and ornaments to celebrate the season. A driving tour is offered each day, along with amusement rides, snacks and live entertainment. This fun-filled family event takes place from late November through early January each year.
Drummer extraordinaire Herlin Riley will be debuting his new touring band the NOLA Music Makers, a super group of some of the best jazz players in the Crescent City. Herlin was a member of Ahmad Jamals group from 1984 through 1987. He has recorded with Marcus Roberts, Dr. John, Harry Connick, Jr., George Benson and Mark Whitfield while honing his skills as one of the top neo-bop jazz drummers. Saxophonist Derek Douget serenades audiences with equally powerful and melodic vibes and contains an advanced jazz dexterity that is reminiscent of Sidney Bechet and old world New Orleans. Pianist David Torkanowsky is equally comfortable pushing the edges of jazz, funk, and blues collaborating with so many musical legends — Irma Thomas, Allen Toussaint, Danny Barker. Trumpeter Leon "Kid Chocolate" Brown has unmatched talent as a Grammy Winner with his authentic New Orleans jazz, blues and R&B styles. Bassist Max Moran has made a name for himself with the Bridge Trio and performing with the likes of Victor Goines, Delfeayo Marsalis and Sean Jones. Jason Marsalis is the youngest member of the famous New Orleans Marsalis jazz musical family. Besides being a great drummer, he is also a great vibraphonist. Together, they will bring all their combine talent to a new level in jazz performance.
