Svaks is a great little corner cafe at the foothills of Mount Dandenong. Rattan chairs and about five small tables are placed close and cozy outside for an alfresco-style experience, and inside the warm red walls and wooden chairs further enhance the charm of this place. The service is personal and very friendly. The owner Alex is often on hand to make recommendations or just to interact with customers. What's especially enticing about this cafe is their great cakes and sweets. They have danishes, pastries, flour-less chocolate cakes and possibly the best baked cheesecakes ever. They also serve bacon and egg breakfasts, milkshakes, sandwiches and excellent coffee, all reasonably priced. Definitely worth traveling the distance for.

This tearoom is dedicated to Agatha Christie’s famous detective character: Miss Marple. From the outside, it looks every inch like the English cottage from the novels. Inside, there are English teapots and Miss Marple memorabilia and pictures everywhere. The menu is structured like a novel: first chapter (entrées), final chapter (deserts), etc. Even the waitresses are dressed to look the part. It is a very popular place but no bookings are allowed, so be prepared to show up only to be told to come back later. The menu (light meals and heavy deserts) is rather limited and on the pricey side. Devonshire scones and fingers are a must try.
