Raised Bed Vegetable and Herb Gardening Saturday, January 31 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Instructor: Robert Bowden   If you have ever thought about growing vegetables and herbs in raised beds or containers, this class was created for you. Based on thirty years of growing vegetables and helping create/maintain more than 20 community gardens throughout Central Florida, Leu Gardens Director Robert Bowden will walk you through each step of creating your own food oasis. Garden location, building materials, suitable growing media and even varietal selections for small spaces will be discussed.   Participants must withdraw from classes at least five days prior to the start of class in order to receive a full refund or credit. If we must cancel a class, we will make every effort to inform you prior to the class time, and you will receive a full refund or credit. Only those registered for the class will be permitted in the classroom. Childcare services are not provided.

Field to Feast and Good Catch a Celebration of Florida Fare Saturday, January 31 10 a.m.-Noon Instructors: Heather McPherson, Pam Brandon & Katie Farmand Come join us as the writers of the award-winning Field to Feast: Recipes Celebrating Florida Farmers, Chefs, and Artisans and Good Catch: Recipes and Stories Celebrating the Best of Florida's Waters present easy recipes using ingredients that showcase the bounty of the Sunshine State. Heather, Pam and Katie have traveled all over Florida collecting ideas and recipes from farmers, fishermen, famous chefs and regional cooks. They will finish with tastings and a meet-and-greet and will also have copies of their books available for purchase. Katie Farmand is a food stylist and Orlando-based recipe developer. She is editor of Edible Orlando Magazine, has served as the associate editor for Victoria and Teatime magazines, and is the author of the blog The Thin Chef. Pam Brandon is a food and travel writer and managing editor of Edible Orlando magazine. She is the author of numerous books, including Culinary Confessions of the PTA Divas. Heather McPherson, past president of the Association of Food Journalists, is a food editor and restaurant critic for the Orlando Sentinel, where she writes four weekly columns on food and dining trends. Container Gardens Saturday, January 31, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Instructor: Pinky Ormand Patio, balcony, porch or poolside--container gardens are wonderful additions any time of the year. Learn the proper techniques and styles used to develop different creations; which plants are appropriate for your growing areas; and suggestions will be made on the best potting materials to use. Everyone will then have a chance to put together a container to take home; supplies provided, but please bring your own pruners. Also, wear comfortable shoes, because we will be walking around the Garden looking at the various containers.   Pinky Ormand is a horticulturist at Harry P. Leu Gardens and maintains the Idea Garden, White Garden, Butterfly Garden and the Camellia Collection. Pinky attended the University of Central Florida where she graduated with a B.A. in Art and has also earned a Landscape & Horticulture Technology degree from Valencia College.   Participants must withdraw from classes at least five days prior to the start of class in order to receive a full refund or credit.
