    »Jonathan's Grille

Jonathan's has all of the feel of an established chain restaurant, plus all of the perks of a privately-owned sports bar. The menu offers a huge variety of starters, salads and entrées including everything from quesadillas, to tilapia, to filet mignon, as well as an excellent selection of delicious deep-dish style pizzas with a unique assortment of toppings. Late night specials and happy hours are listed on the restaurant's website and offer customers additional savings. The tables at Jonathan's are a little larger than those found at most chain restaurants—that little bit of extra elbow room makes for a much more comfortable dining experience. Depending on the night, guests might also enjoy live music, karaoke or a bar-side trivia game. Lynn-nore Chittom

    »The Bunganut Pig

Nestled in the quiet setting of Carter's Court, this cozy Bunganut Pig club serves classic British "pub grub" and features live music nightly. A warm and friendly wait staff and pleasant atmosphere create a perfect setting to relax over a stout and a juicy steak. But don't get too relaxed, the music starts in the evening each night, and there is very little quiet time after that. Come early, and enjoy a good meal. Don't forget to ask your server to tell you the "Pig Story."

    »The Bluebird Cafe

Ever heard of Garth Brooks? That's right, his first performance was at the Bluebird. And it is this mystique that calls young singers and songwriters looking for their chance at stardom. Monday nights are open-mike, so take your chances with the unknown acts. This is a haven for the struggling artist and the established country star, making it a Nashville tradition for both locals and tourists.

    »Tin Roof 2

With the recipe for success, the Tin Roof 2 in Franklin is laid-back, friendly, neighborhood establishment. Grab a group of friends and head here for a guaranteed good time with live music, cold draft beers and expertly concocted cocktails. You'll find hearty pub grub options like their 'pizzadillas' and build your own nachos dishes. Lighter fare is also offered for the health conscious, with salads veggie sandwiches.

    »Springwater Supper Club & Lounge

Possibly the city's oldest watering hole, Springwater Supper Club & Lounge has been here so long that the current owner does not even know when it was first built. Just be glad it was, because there's no place like it in town. Nothing fancy about the interior, which consists of a large room with a good stage and bar. The crowd is interesting most nights, but not nearly as interesting as the music. Bands, from country to punk rock, take the stage every weekend. There is never a cover charge nor a dull moment here.

    »Cabana Restaurant

Cabana Restaurant is a delightful combination of pub, restaurant and nightclub. Located on Belcourt Avenue near the Vanderbilt, Belmont, Hillsboro Village and the Belcourt Theatre, Cabana Restaurant is the perfect spot for a late night meal after a show, a romantic dinner or a place to meet up with friends and watch something on one of the plasma screens. Cabana offers themed nights, ladies nights and live music, in addition to their trademark cabana private seating options. The food is familiar Southern cuisine prepared with flare by Chef Brian Uhl. Cabana is owned by Randy Rayburn, who also owns the very successful Sunset Grill and Midtown Cafe. -Lynn-nore Chittom

    »Exit/In

The Exit has long been the source of live entertainment in the Elliston Square area, but over the course of its history it has suffered neglect. It is amazing that a club that was featured in movies and books, and even Rolling Stone magazine, could fall into such disrepair. Unwilling to see the club close down, Ned Horton stepped in and took over ownership. Today, after much renovation, including a new sound and lighting system, Horton has rebuilt the Exit's reputation as a premier music venue. Changing the name to Exit/In and booking a more eclectic mix of artists, Horton brought this little club, as well as the entire Elliston Square area, back to life.

    »The End

Located in the middle of the Elliston "Rock Block," this unassuming nightspot called The End provides alternative music lovers a place to see their favorite local artists. The room is small, but the stage is always rocking with the latest of Nashville's aspiring rock stars. In the bar, the quietest spot in the club, you can carry on a conversation, but you don't come to The End to talk. You come here to dance, listen to great live music and see who else actually found a parking space in this busy district. Parking is a problem, so the big lot near Vanderbilt University across the street is your best bet.

    »Blackstone Restaurant & Brewery

Blackstone is a great choice for casual dining with a group of friends. The pizzas here are of the build-your-own variety with ample amounts of vegetables, meats and cheeses, and your choice of crust. The real draw is the beer. All varieties are brewed on-site and include something for everyone, lager, ale, pilsner, stout, pale, you name it, they brew it.

    »Idle Hour Tavern

Country Music stars Travis Tritt and Lorrie Morgan have visited this Idle Hour Tavern, along with Lee Roy Purnell and David Lee Murphy. What brings them here? Tradition. For decades Dianne and Bobby Herald have hosted up-and-coming artists in what they call "a little old beer bar." Sure, they serve beer, but they also serve some of the best live country music in Nashville. Top artists still come by to perform for the packed house, and they usually stick around to toss back a cold one. Domestic beer is super cheap, and chips and pizza are served all night.
