Robin Scott is a London-based artist who adopted the moniker M in the late 1970s. He assembled a band and released the single "Moderne Man," in 1978 to little recognition, before dropping the synth-heavy hit "Pop Muzik," in 1979. M released its debut albumNew York • London • Paris • Munich, later the same year, offering a fully realized new wave sound that quickly found an audience in the UK and the US. After two more studio albums, 1980's The Official Secrets Act and 1981's Famous Last Words, Scott abandoned the M moniker and released his next album, Jive Shikisha!, under the name Robin Scott & Shikisha in 1984.

Southern rock band Blackberry Smoke has been making country rock music since 2000, after forming in Atlanta. The band's music reflects a wide range of influences including blues rock and metal guitar riffs and country style vocals. Lead singer Charlie Starr and guitarist Paul Jackson carry harmonies over steady rhythms sections, a combination that has earned the band critical acclaim, particularly on its 2009 album, Little Piece of Dixie. Already having shared multiple stages with ZZ Top and Lynryd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke has been exposed to premier examples of rock bands and is well on its way to making a lasting name for itself in Southern rock history.
