    Drowning Pool

    New Orleans, LA 70121
Drowning Pool became a household name on the metal circuit in a matter of months in 2001, thanks to a well-received series of Ozzfest performances and the huge success of "Bodies," the band's debut single. The nu metal band formed in Dallas in 1996, and with constant touring began gathering a local following of heavy music fans. After "Bodies"--and its now oft-repeated chorus of "let the bodies hit the floor"--spread all over alternative rock radio, the band seemed poised to dethrone some of the genre's more prominent heavy-hitters. Unfortunately, however, lead singer Dave Williams died of heart disease just a year later and Drowning Pool was forced to evaluate its options. Ultimately, the band soldiered on, running through a couple of new lead singers before settling into a solidified new lineup. The group released its eponymous fourth album in 2010 and continues to tour regularly.

Chicago band Cornmeal has been a growing force in the backbreaking jam band touring scene, honing its unique brand of bluegrass to greater and greater response. Cornmeal has released a handful of self-produced albums, however the group has built its musical following largely on the road. The band's members have played at nearly all the major musical festivals, including Bonnaroo, Wakarusa and 10,000 Lakes.

    Bassnectar

If there's a name that commands respect amid the modern electronic music scene it's undoubtedly Bassnectar. The San Francisco Bay Area-based beat mixer extraordinaire is one of the more predominant figures in the modern electronic genre and consistently manages to change and evolve his sound as time and technology permit. Bassnectar, or Lorin Ashton, describes his sound as "omni-tempo maximalism" --a slightly ambiguous term that was created to pinpoint the myriad of sounds Bassnectar employs in his music. The various genres he regularly samples typically center around ragtime, punk rock, gangsta rap, Balkan gypsy music, death metal and dub.

    Here Come The Mummies
    Southport Music HallOctober 23, 2014 7:30 PM
    200 Monticello Avenue
    New Orleans, LA 70121
Funk collective Here Come the Mummies began blending evident instrumental skill with a hefty dose of kitsch upon forming in 2000. The 12 band members dress as mummies while performing and keep their identities a secret, sticking to their stage names and back stories as Egyptian mummies unearthed in an underground disco club thousands of years after their burial. There are rumors that the band members keep their identities secret because they are signed exclusively with various record labels for other projects, and this is a believable story, as the the band possesses a good deal of talent. The Nashville-based group performs across the country with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor and entertaining live show.
