»Bizarre (Of D12) With Jackie Chain and Special Guests

March 12, 2015 10:00 PM

Alabama rapper Jackie Chain is Southern hip-hop artist in the wake of Southern rap pillars like UGK, Three 6 Mafia and 8-Ball & MJG. While the Asian-American led a difficult childhood, eventually selling narcotics in high school and being sentenced to two years of prison for it, upon his release, he turned to the music industry, recognizing it as his true calling. After working the local club and freestyle circuits, Jackie Chain developed a reputation for slightly unorthodox production - choosing a trance beat for one of his highly successful single, for example - and this unconventional style landed him a deal with Universal/Motown for his debut release in 2011.

»Mason Jennings

March 27, 2015 7:00 PM

Mason Jennings is an American singer/songwriter known to mix simple, effective songwriting with modern folk arrangements. By the age of 19, he'd bounced around the country, from Hawaii to Pennsylvania and Minnesota, all the while honing his acoustic guitar playing and knack for penning memorable melodies. His 1997 self-titled debut was full of a combination of fun, stripped-down rock songs and sparse, sensitive ballads, all bolstered by his unique and drawn-out vocal delivery. As his prominence has notched up over the years, Jennings has tweaked his style a touch by incorporating more involved production flourishes and trying his hand at political songwriting, but his simple effectiveness still lies at the core of his entire catalog.

Raised in rural Illinois on acoustic folk and rockabilly, John Prine became one of the more respected country singer/songwriters to have emerged during the 1970s. Though never obtaining tremendous commercial success, several notable musicians enjoy Prine's simple, yet intelligent style of songs - Kris Kristofferson once said that Prine wrote songs so well that "we'll have to break his thumbs." Many musicians have covered his songs, including Bette Midler as well as Joan Baez, and Prine has recorded several duets with other country music stars to much acclaim.
