    »The Polyphonic Spree

    August 29, 2014 8:00 PM

The Polyphonic Spree is a symphonic pop rock band from Dallas that features a choir and an extensive instrumental repertoire. In 2000, lead singer Tim Delaughter began collaborating with a dozen other musicians to experiment with orchestral music, the vocal style of Ozzy Osbourne, and classic pop sensibility. In only two weeks, The Polyphonic Spree created a 30 minute set and put on its distinctive white choir robes to perform with Bright Eyes and Grandaddy for its debut performance. After the successful show, another twelve musicians were added to the band and The Polyphonic Spree released The Beginning Stages of... The Polyphonic Spree, which contains the nine songs written for its show and an additional tenth track, in 2002. The same year, the band was invited to perform at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, and the attention it received from the show sparked an invitation for the band to perform at the Meltdown Festival, a music festival in London curated by David Bowie. Despite being dropped from its label 678 Recordings in 2003, The Polyphonic Spree began breaking into pop culture, providing music for commercials, TV shows, radio shows and the feature film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, while also supporting Bowie on his Reality Tour. The band continued its prevalence throughout the decade, releasing its second album Together We're Heavy, in 2004 and making several notable performances including the Nobel Peace Prize Concert and Oscar de la Renta's 2008 Spring Fashion Show during New York Fashion Week. In 2012 The Polyphonic Spree embarked on its You + Me Tour, its first tour in four years, featuring Delaughter and 20 choir members and musicians.
