This late 19th-century opera house and former saloon is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is still host several productions and private events each year.
At this historic saloon you will find an old Faro table that was nicknamed "The Famous Suicide Table" because two consecutive players lost everything they owned and then committed suicide. Though you cannot play this particular game, the saloon has plenty of slot machines available for you to try your luck; or, just belly up to the bar and enjoy a drink. Camel Arena in Virginia City is where the city gathers to see the camels make it to the finish line.The Camel Races were once a fictitious event created by a Virginia City newspaper editor to fill up space in the news-starved periodical. In 1960, Hollywood director John Houston decided to make the races a reality, importing the animals from the San Francisco Zoo. Since that time, the camel races have been an annual September event.
