This hip holiday show from Falcon Theater features musicians, actors and marionettes in the tale of a grumpy, overworked bachelor determined to stay at home on New Year's Eve and read Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Match Girl" -- until a chance encounter changes his life and his view of the season. Created by Tony Award-winning writer Rachel Sheinkin ("The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee") and the piano-violin-drum trio GrooveLily, "Striking 12" makes for a musical celebration of new beginnings.
Set in WWI-era Belgium, this new drama celebrates the centennial of the impromptu cease-fire that broke out between British and German soldiers on Christmas Day, 1914, amidst the brutal carnage of that devastating war. Written by award-winning playwright Philip Paradis, the play focuses on the front-line troops on both sides, who put down their weapons to share season's greetings, sing carols, and even exchange tobacco and souvenirs. This historic truce has since been recognized as a symbolic moment of peace and humanity on the battlefield, and is sure to provide a meaningful theatrical experience for the holidays.
