    »Left Bank

First things first, this West Side restaurant doesn't overlook the Seine River—it is not even near water. Nonetheless, this American bistro is quickly becoming one of Buffalo's most popular restaurants thanks to brisk word-of-mouth advertising from happy customers. It is dimly lit, with a small candle atop an intimate table covered in a white tablecloth. Bold fabrics drape the windows, and the walls are cloaked in artwork. Some samples on the ever-changing menu may include delights such as Gorgonzola Fondue for two, pork loin alongside a Grand Marnier cranberry sauce or something simple like Ahi tuna tartar.

    »Essex Pub

At first glance, it seems as if almost every hip place in Buffalo is housed in a building that dates back to last century. This space has history galore, its various incarnations were once mob hangout, diner, brewery and deli until it opened up as a pub in 1986. On the menu diners will find 'sammiches' and 'snackatizers' like wings, Reubens, beef on weck, etc. in addition to much more. Inside guests will find a pool table, jukebox and usually local favorite Flying Bison on tap. Overall a great place to start or finish the night.

    »Acqua

Acqua has spectacular views and in warmer weather, it is a popular place to dine outdoors and enjoy a beautiful Buffalo sunset over the Niagara River. The menu includes nautical-inspired appetizers, like shrimp martinis and crab cakes, along with a crispy duck pancake, reminiscent of Peking Duck. Dinner entrees include New York strip steak, bone-in pork chops, and pan-seared shrimp and scallops, along with beef tenderloin, spiced salmon, lobster pot pie, and yellow fin tuna. Some of the sides available include lobster mac and cheese, garlic spinach, and grilled asparagus. Host your next celebration at Acqua; it is the perfect setting for a wedding or anniversary party. Moreover, you have a variety of options to choose from, including sit-down dinner, food stations, and buffet. - Christine A. Smyczynski

    »Allen Street Hardware Store Cafe

This restaurant was once a hardware store and now it has been converted into a well-managed, neighborhood spot that serves American comfort food with a twist. On the menu diners will find sandwiches, burgers, panini and salads, however these are definitely not your mother's homemade meals. For instance, the meatloaf here is inside a panini filled with pesto, Swiss and tomato or the burger made with lamb and served with a schmear of mint pesto. There are other standard choices as well, so don't fret, not everything is so eclectic. On Monday nights, check out their 'Backroom', where guests can hear live jazz, acoustic, open-mic, etc. after dinner.

The show combines the right amount of sleaze and tease to make the drinks flow smoothly. This pro has been at it for over 25 years. Friday is fish-fry night. Otherwise, the food is pub-grub all the way. The lounge is the unofficial headquarters for fans of the GooGoo Dolls, with whom Lance performed in the early days.
