    Prolific jazz composer and pianist Ramsey Lewis got his start in the Chicago music scene with his band the Ramsey Lewis Trio. While his band mates would go on to pursue their own projects, most notably Maurice White, who formed Earth, Wind & Fire in 1970, Lewis was already a widely sought after pianist by 1966 with chart-topping tunes such as "The In Crowd" and the Grammy Award-winning album Wade in the Water. In addition to his extensive catalog, he has contributed to the jazz scene in several different ways including hosting the 13-episode Legends of Jazz television series, serving as artistic director of the jazz portion of Illinois's Ravinia Festival and hosting radio programs such as Legends of Jazz and the Ramsey Lewis Morning Show.

    Born Taalib Johnson, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Musiq Soulchild is a soul artist who meshes contemporary R&B with an alternative funk and jazzy-blues touch. As for his name, Musiq was always referred to as "that music dude", so he soon began introducing himself as Music. He cites Musiq as the frontman and Soulchild as everything he's drawn from. He presents himself as an artist, but one who closely reflects his influences of the past.

    Bishop Allen is a band from New York City that was formed in 2003 by Justin Rice and Christian Rudder while they were both studying at Harvard University. The group features a variety of lightly arranged songs, where you can clearly hear every instrument in the mix. Generally the guitars form the main counter melody to the band's unique vocal arrangements that are accompanied by steady light drum loops. Bishop Allen released its debut album Charm School in 2003, where every instrument on the record is played by Rice and Rudder.
