    »George C. Boldt Yacht House

The George C. Boldt Yacht House is a remarkable boathouse located in the center of the 1000 Islands. Nestled on the banks of St. Lawrence River, it was built in 1903 as a dream summer home for George C. Boldt and his wife, Louise. This imposing six story shingle-style building features Italian gardens, spires, tunnels, a powerhouse, a drawbridge, a children's playhouse and a dovecote. Unfortunately Louise died suddenly and the house was abandoned for 73 years. It was acquired in 1977 by the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority who restored this fabulous structure. The classic wooden boats on display are a fine collection and some are said to be from the Boldt fleet. The George C. Boldt Yacht House opened its doors to the public in 1996. Don't miss to visit this historic landmark when in the city.

    »Boldt Castle

This popular attraction is set in the Heart Island and was supposed to be the dream home of George C. Boldt and his wife, Louise Kehrer Boldt. Reminiscent of a Rhineland castle he saw while on his travels, Boldt Castle is an ode to romance and fantasy. After Louise's death, construction of this masonry structure stopped like its counterpart, George C. Boldt Yacht House for 73 years. It was neglected for several years but now has been restored and open to the public. Explore the 120 unfinished rooms and wonder how they would have looked if completed and furnished. Stroll through the other buildings like the Power House, Alster Tower and Clock Tower. It will give a glimpse of the dreams of a man who wanted a love nest for his wife and whose love was cut short tragically.
