Based in Ontario, Canada The Tragically Hip is an alternative rock band that has been active since 1983. The band signed a long-term deal with MCA in the late 1980s and released its first record, a self-titled EP, in 1987 before dropping its debut album Up to Here, in 1989. With catchy melodies and solid instrumentation, The Tragically Hip saw early critical and commercial acclaim, snagging multiple Juno Awards along the way. After four more studio albums, the band made the switch over to Universal Records and released its sixth studio albumPhantom Power, in 1998. Despite never having expanded into an international audience, The Tragically Hip has become one of the most beloved alternative rock acts in its home country, earning the nickname The Hip by its close-knit fan base.

Canadian singer-songwriter Cold Specks is a young songwriting talent exploring the music of the American deep south. Updated with some pop inclinations, Cold Specks draws mostly from the dark and brash sounds of folks and blues legends like Bill Callahan and Tom Waits while still capturing the timeless beauty and ache of Sister Rosetta Tharpe or Mahalia Jackson.

The Wooden Sky is an indie rock/folk band that formed under the name Friday Morning's Regret in 2003. The band released its debut album When Lost at Sea, shortly after changing its name in 2007, and established its layered sound with the 2009 effort If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone. The sophomore album demonstrates The Wooden Sky's ability to push the folk genre into alternative country while still maintaining a rock sensibility.
