If you are an avid star gazer and wanted a closer look of the celestial skies, then this place is for you. Owned and run by the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association (GRAAA), the James C. Veen Observatory was built in the 1960s and has been in function since 1970. Consisting of two Ash Domes and three telescopes, the observatory also features a huge library, meeting room and an interactive display for the public and the association members. Viewing nights runs from mid-April to mid-October on the second and last Saturday of every month. However it would be best to call ahead and plan your trip as it all depends upon clear skies.
