Throwing Muses is an alternative rock band that emerged out of Newport, Rhode Island in the early 1980s. During its initial run, the group collected a dedicated following with its atypical song structures, erratic tempos and the dual vocals of songwriters Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly. After seven studio albums, including a 1986 eponymous debut and the pop-induced The Real Romona from 1991, the departure of Donelly and Hersh's burgeoning solo career eventually catalyzed Throwing Muses' break up in 1997. The group returned in 2003 with its eight studio LP, another self-titled effort, which saw the return of the core lineup, including Donnelly who contributed guest vocals on the record. Throwing muses continues to craft is signature post punk sound with complimentary rock and pop threads weaving the fabric of its unorthodox songwriting.

Sometimes a band is afraid to change its sound. This is unfortunate because people undoubtedly get tired of listening to a group play the same style of music time after time. Luckily, the English band The Horrors is keen on reinventing itself and changes its sound on every studio recording. The band's first album, 2007's Strange House, was a strong garage rock recording that helped establish the band on the British music scene. However, on the group's second LP, 2009's Primary Colours, the band took a drastic new direction and headed into murky neo-psychedelic territory. This change in pace has helped create a reputation for The Horrors as a band that will try new things regardless of the consequences.
