»From the Heart

December 21, 2014 3:00 PM

With "From the Heart," playwright Jessica Puller weaves together O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi" and Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory" to remind us that the perfect gift is one that comes from the heart. Since it was first published in 1905, O. Henry's "Magi" has charmed readers with the bittersweet story of how a young couple with little money meets the challenge of buying each other Christmas presents. Capote's 1956 short story is a poignant autobiographical vignette -- a boy's remembrance of cherished holiday rituals shared with a favorite elderly cousin. Puller combines these familiar stories about love and loss for this world premiere performance, directed by Molly Mattaini.

»The Wizard Of Oz

December 21, 2014 10:00 AM

Based on the 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz franchise has seen an absurd number of adaptations, off-brand sequels and spin-offs. The classic tale of a Kansas girl named Dorothy and her adventure into the land of wicked witches, flying monkeys and talking scarecrows has captivated children and adults alike for over a century. People are usually most familiar with the 1939 film version, but The Wizard of Oz was performed as a live musical as early as 1902, when it was adapted for the stage by Baum himself.
