Phil Hanley began standup comedy by performing at open mics around Vancouver, often in between bands at music venues. In these establishments he discovered and honed his unique blending of material and crowd interaction that makes no two of his performances the same. Phils style can best be described as unpredictably reflective, delivered with sharp accuracy, and rooted in the grand tradition of joke-telling.
Since arriving in the States, Phil has appeared on “The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson” twice. In 2012, he returned to Just For Laughs for a second time and he was selected for the Comics-To-Watch Showcase as part of the New York Comedy Festival. In 2013, Phil performed on John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show for Comedy Central, and most recently, in 2014, Phil performed on The Pete Holmes Show on TBS.
For All the World to See: Visual Culture & the Struggle for Civil Rights is an exhibit about the influence of visuals on the society between 1940s and 1970s. The exhibit charts the journey and impact that images have had on the civil right movement and the racial equality in America. The exhibit explores the role the media played in changing the state of denial and dormancy in the country as it spread information to black and white Americans about race issues.
