This golf complex is a great place to work on your game. It features a nine-hole course, a large driving range lighted at night and a sprawling putting green. The course is strictly high-iron material with all the holes measuring only about 100 yards except two par fours. Serious golfers may also be interested in the analysis stations, at which you can use a computer to analyze your swinging performance.
Westchester Golf Course is a short golf strip, right next to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and open daily (till 10 p.m.), making it convenient to frequent fliers. Like the runways next door, the layout is primarily flat with very wide fairways. Everything here is par three or four, but the course can still take a long time to play on weekends because of its popularity. Although the landscape is unspectacular, the course is always in good condition and the green fees are certainly reasonable. Call for more details.
This unique golf experience consists of a nine-hole course in the "backyard" of the Manhattan Beach Marriott. Particularly ideal for businessmen staying overnight, this attractive and quick course is overlooked by many of the hotel's rooms. Hazards include two water traps and four sand bunkers. Rental clubs are available.
This popular public course demands accurate drives down its tree-lined fairways and challenging elevated greens. Located in southwest Los Angeles, and convenient to many of the South Bay beach cities, Chester Washington Golf Course attracts locals from all over the county. Although the green fees run a little high when compared to other public greens, regulars say they cannot get enough of it. Equipment rentals, carts and coffee shop are all on site. The green fees are subject to change. Visit website for tee times.
The Ballona Wetlands are the largest remaining coastal wetlands in the Los Angeles region. Once owned by Howard Hughes, today this freshwater marsh is open to the public. Enjoy walking along the perimeter public trail and take in all the natural beauty in the middle of the city.
Located southwest of Downtown Los Angeles, Kenneth Hahn State Park provides sweeping views of the surrounding metropolitan sprawl. Once a functioning oil field, the refurbished space features several play areas, picnic tables, barbecue pits and even a lotus pond. Hahn Park's most frequented feature, however, is the combined seven miles of hiking trails and foot paths meandering throughout the grounds. Be sure to bring USD 6.00 along for the vehicle entry fee if you plan on parking your car. Kenneth Hahn State Park is the perfect place to get away from the city while still being right in the middle of it.
With a total of 36 holes, this golfing complex consists of a standard 18-hole golf course, as well as an 18-hole par three. The regular course is characterized by wide fairways, level ground, and large greens. The par three is primarily a means to brush up on your short game, with short holes and small greens. The course also features a pro shop, equipment rentals, cart rentals, golf lessons, putting greens, a lounge and a coffee shop. Call ahead for more details.
