Tribute to 1850s abolitionist.
Quindaro is an archaeological site and was an abolitionists settlement in 1856. It played a major role in the Underground Railroad. The railroad was a grid of secret routes and safe houses that were used by slaves to escape to free states. The ruins now are a reminder of the importance of freedom and racial harmony. Quindaro Underground Railroad Museum is nestled in the Vernon Multipurpose Center and offers you a glimpse of this forgotten town's history and its people through artifacts and documents.
