Nagasaki, with its thousands of kilometers of coastline (a number made possible by its hundreds of islands), provides some excellent diving spots. But first, you should probably learn how to dive! At Nagasaki Diving, you can become fully certified. Lessons are in Japanese, but instructors are patient and certainly well qualified. After learning to dive, you can become a club member and participate in diving expeditions to snap photos.
Every city and prefecture has its government-sponsored gymnasium, which is almost always an enormous structure that is open to the public and able to accommodate any number of sports or athletic activities. This one is located across the street from Matsuyama-machi. There are several courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton or table tennis, as well as matted areas for judo, karate and wrestling. Special applications may be submitted for "special use" of the gym as well. There are various fees depending on the type of activity and facility used, but none are very high. Pocket change will cover you.
