When The Bloody Beetroots were founded in 2006 the group's main intention was to bring the punk rock aesthetic (high energy, disrespect for authority, flippant regard for cultural morays, etc.) to the world of electronic music. As Bobby Rifo and Tommy Tea--the two producers of The Bloody Beetroots--started producing more and more music they stumbled upon a distinctively electro-house sound that has since managed to infect speakers in dance halls around the world.

A poster child for how quickly social media sites can launch a band's career out of nowhere, metalcore outfit In This Moment has enjoyed a steady career since 2005, due in large part to its successful Myspace marketing campaign. The grouped formed in Los Angeles, the result of a random meeting between vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth. A mutual appreciation for melodic metal and hard rock prompted them to work together, and soon their musical partnership was given a name and fleshed out to become a five-piece. The rough demos that In This Moment released on Myspace took off, helping the band land a recording deal with Century Media Records. The resulting debut album, 2007's Beautiful Tragedy, is full of the aggressive metalcore rhythms and anthemic pop hooks that are now characteristic of the band's music.

Essentially the project of Portland via Idaho musician Justin Ringle, Horse Feathers was conceived when Ringle relocated to Portland with the hopes of finding like-minded musicians, after having no luck in his native state. This move proved fruitful, as Ringle immediately met the Brodericks, a brother and sister who shared musical interests with Ringle. Horse Feathers did not retain this familial duo after the release of its first album and while the band has had a constantly rotating cast of players, the band's sound - lush chamber-folk - has remained consistent.
