Bars & Cafes
Au bureau ("At the Office") is a chain of restaurants. It s sort of like a bar with a lounge feel to it, decorated like an old English pub with club chairs and large flat TV-screens. The draft beers are good and the house cocktails are excellent. There are many, many things on the menu, with very diverse dishes: meat, fish, burgers, pizzas, tapas… There is something for every taste bud. The prices are very reasonable! But you get what you pay for: this is not a place to expect haute cuisine... The staff is very friendly. Some nights are themed (singles, karaoke…) - P.Wicki
The Nomad'Café offers a wide variety of coffees and teas from the Mediterranean area accompanied by delicious pastries. Periodic concerts in the evening make this a fun destination after dark. The prime aim of the tea-rrom at this establishment is to offer a meeting ground for people belonging to different backgrounds. So if you love mingling and interacting with people, make sure you plan a visit to Nomad' Café soon.
This coffee-roasting shop opens very early in the morning to welcome customers who come to taste their favourite expresso coffee or flavoured tea. The very friendly team of staff share their good humour and taste for good things. A great place to start the day.
Le Clan des Cigales serves tea and coffee seven days a week. Food such as sandwiches is also served. Visit their website for more details.
The Teavora is a very special and unusual tearoom. As soon as you step in, leaving behind the noisy streets of downtown Marseille, it’s as if taking your first step on an island beach paradise, with white sand and everything. Yes! There is sand on floor and comfy mattresses to lie on (napping is allowed). A great place to completely unwind from the hustle and bustle! There is a friendly atmosphere and a wide choice of teas and other hot drinks, as well as smoothies for those who are not big fans of tea. And for the sweet-toothed, there are some great pastries available.
Le Grain de Sable is a restaurant where everything is based on organic products and fair trade. Customers very much respect organic ethics and come to share those values. Vegetarian dishes are on the menu, like the delicious tomato-basil pie. Other organic specialties include beer, tapas, fair trade teas and many other choices. There are various original dishes which change regularly. For lively evenings, debates are organized where ideas zoom around the room and the mood is always good. Le Grain de Sable adapts to current trends and offers tasty organic food.
Josy and her staff greet customers in their bar down on the Canebière from 6 in the morning until 2a. A typically warm southern-French welcome, themed evenings and lively karaoké sessions are all on the menu here. Dip into the everyday world of life in Marseilles, where the regulars are part of the furniture. The place exudes a certain old-fashioned charm, a quaintness that maintains a slightly slower pace than the rest of the city's nightlife.
Located in the centre of La Ciotat, this beautifully renovated yacht club offers numerous ways to create a most memorable event. Upstairs, the restaurant Le Cap Lumière offers panoramic views and prix fixe menus for your grand event. Sur les Quais, a café-style restaurant on the docks by the boats offers American breakfasts, snacks, and casual lunches and dinners.
In the remains of Old Port, much of which was bombed in World War II, sits this swanky, chirpy restaurant. The place, with its retro pop décor, is frequented by the young and hip crowd, most of whom take off to more night spots after a quick meet-up and a drink. Not much can be said about the food, though the prices are good for a light snack or brunch. Cocktails are available at the flashy bar, with its yellow wood paneling and red stools. Expect to spot some of France's film industry wannabes, as you spend an evening with pals.
This café is devoted to Olympique Marseille's legion of devoted fans. It is situated in the Vieux-Port, opposite the sea. You can follow live matches while munching on delicious snack platters and swigging beers from an international selection. This friendly venue has a great atmosphere, and appears to be permanently bathed in sunshine.
Le Fouquet done in polished wood and furnished in a shade of bright pink is quite funky and retro. There is plenty of whiskey on offer as well as a varied selection of many other premium drinks to linger on while you are engaged in conversations. Visitors can enjoy the jazz nights and try out some salsa steps or they can explore one of their famous theme nights: retro, 1930s and so on. The menu, though limited, is quite appetizing and the tasty tapas list is sure to appeal to even the most fussiest of diners.
Plain, with sesame or poppy seeds, Cinnamon Raisin, Onion ... At Oscar's Bagels and Sandwiches you can find real bagels, just like in New York! And that's exactly where these little round rolls are imported from. An American "Deli-style" sandwich place on the Vieux Port's Quai de Rive Neuve, Oscar's Bagels and Sandwiches offers sandwiches, salads and desserts for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A place to try out, whether it s a quick lunch to go or sitting down with some friends. - P.Wicki
