Drowning Pool With Like A Storm In Concert
    Phase 2 Dining & EntertainmentOctober 30, 2014 7:30 PM
    4009 Murray Place
    Lynchburg, VA 24502
Drowning Pool became a household name on the metal circuit in a matter of months in 2001, thanks to a well-received series of Ozzfest performances and the huge success of "Bodies," the band's debut single. The nu metal band formed in Dallas in 1996, and with constant touring began gathering a local following of heavy music fans. After "Bodies"--and its now oft-repeated chorus of "let the bodies hit the floor"--spread all over alternative rock radio, the band seemed poised to dethrone some of the genre's more prominent heavy-hitters. Unfortunately, however, lead singer Dave Williams died of heart disease just a year later and Drowning Pool was forced to evaluate its options. Ultimately, the band soldiered on, running through a couple of new lead singers before settling into a solidified new lineup. The group released its eponymous fourth album in 2010 and continues to tour regularly.

Allen Toussaint and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band
    Shaftman Performance HallNovember 04, 2014 7:30 PM
    541 Luck Avenue Southwest
    Roanoke, VA 24016
One of the most influential figures in the R&B scene of New Orleans, Allen Toussaint is a singer, producer and prolific songwriter who created several hits for artists like Lee Dorsey, Robert Palmer and The Meters. Many of his more famous compositions, such as The Rolling Stones' recording of "Fortune Teller" and Otis Redding's interpretation "Pain in My Heart," were penned under his mother's maiden name, Naomi Neville. Toussaint may have made his name as a behind the scenes man throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but he also embarked on his own solo career in the 1970s and released a few of his own records including From a Whisper to a Scream and Southern Nights. He continues to write music and collaborate with artists today for projects such as his big band endeavor with Elvis Costello for the 2006 record The River in Reverse.
