If you lived in the 1970s, chances are you constantly listened to Steely Dan. During its heyday, the band came to define a sound that relied heavily on polished studio production and expert musicians who were called in to craft a refined sound. Steely Dan is still around and up to its old tricks. Founding members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen might be a little older but their sound is still the same.

Lady Antebellum is a country pop trio from Nashville, Tennessee. Formed in 2006 by Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott, the group has experienced a great deal of mainstream success with its poppy blend of singer/songwriter country and modern folk. The trio's music is largely acoustic in nature and is often full of sparse, unobtrusive arrangements of piano, pedal steel guitar and strings. Lady Antebellum's self-titled debut album arrived in 2008 and became an instant hit on country and adult contemporary radio stations while also debuting at number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. 2010's Need You Now would bring even more attention to the group, spawning several hit singles and a couple of world tours.

    John Mayall

    Plymouth, NH 03264
One of the blues revival pioneers of 1960s England, John Mayall is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist and the founder of The Bluesbreakers. As the front man of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, he led a number of now iconic musicians such as Mick Tayler of The Rolling Stones, Peter Gren of Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton at the beginning of their careers. In 1968, he turned to a more experimental sound and disbanded his group, though the band reformed in 1982 only to officially breakup again in 2008 so Mayall could pursue other solo projects with various collaborators. With a staggering discography and a career that spans over half a century, Mayall is already cemented in music history as a father of English blues though he continues to perform around the world today.

    Darius Rucker

Darius Rucker is most notably the former lead singer for Hooty and the Blowfish. After this band's successful run in the 90s and early 2000s, Rucker moved on to a solo career, continuing to sing in a similarly soulful and often bittersweet style. Unlike his work with Hooty and the Blowfish, however, much of is solo work is described as country music with common Southern themes and the use of instruments typical of a Nashville act. The South Carolina native grew up in a musically mixed culture that is reflected in his mix of rock, blues and country, explicit in his music.
