Inyo Council for the Arts as the name suggests is the art council that undertakes activities and projects to promote art and artists. Its mission is to ensure that quality performances and performers are presented to the community, thereby enriching and enhancing the cultural aspect of the county. In a bid to achieve its goals, the council hosts variety of programs including live music concerts, workshops, dramas, art festivals; it even reaches out to the younger citizens through school outreach programs. The region of Porterville is signified due to the presence of the First Congregational Church. It is a historic site and is precisely located on East Mill Street. The structure that stands stern and elegant was constructed more than a century ago in 1909. It is built on a land of 0.4 acres (0.16 hectares) and exemplifies the Late Gothic Revival and Shingle styles of architecture. Steeped in history, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 5, 1999.
