    October 21, 2014 7:30 PM

Formed from the fusion of the two bands Death Piggy and The Slave Pit, GWAR (originally GWAARGGGH!!!) began making over the top thrash metal in Richmond, Virginia in 1985. The now 6-piece is notorious for its extreme costumes, obscene lyrics and stage performances that involve bloody satires of political figures and pop culture. The group has grabbed multiple Grammys, MTV awards and an extremely diverse audience made up of fans that wouldn't normally listen to metal.

    »Jeff The Brotherhood

    October 21, 2014 9:00 PM

Notorious for playing spontaneous rock shows on the rooftops of Nashville, brother Jake and Jamin Orall formed Jeff the Brotherhood in 2006 to channel its raucous energy into a garage-inspired indie rock project. Though the brothers had been releasing limited addition records and touring throughout the 2000s, Jeff the Brotherhood began to see national attention with the release of its fifth studio album Heavy Days, in 2009. The band captured a national audience with its stripped down rock and roll tinged with psych flourishes as well as industry attention that led to a collaborative EP with Best Coast and a live album released through Jack White's Third Man Records. In the subsequent years, Jeff the Brotherhood's media exposure skyrocketed with the band's television and major festival debuts as well as back to back studio albums in 2011 and 2012.

    »Carolina Chocolate Drops

    October 22, 2014

Educated in old-time folk by the fiddler Joe Thompson, one of the few fiddlers still alive who plays in a short bowing style that was passed down from generations of plantation slaves, North Carolina trio Carolina Chocolate Drops channels back porch folk from the twenties and thirties. The band has mastered this style so flawlessly that it often covers modern RnB songs in this style, which has garnered the band quite a bit of attention and positive press. Though the Carolina Chocolate Drops weren't known beyond certain bluegrass circles in its early years, its 2010 album Genuine Negro Jig charted at #1 on the Us Bluegrass chart and #2 on the US Folk charts for many weeks.
