    Learn about safety in a kid-sized town complete with buildings, roads, bridges, sidewalks, water towers, and street signs. Here, children can learn about how to stay out of harms way by following traffic rules in a world suited to just their size. Kids can drive in small cars to learn about the rules surrounding automobiles, or ride through the park on bikes to learn about bicycle safety as well! Although it caters mostly to public schools, Safety Village is open every weekday morning from 8a-9a and at Open Recreation times throughout the week for walkers, skaters, and bikers to have a safe, automobile free place to exercise. Camps are available during the summers and birthday party packages are offered.

At Jump N Jungle, a unique inflatable space filled with things to climb on, jump on, and bounce on, it is easy to let the young have their fun while you relax. Although mostly a space to rent out for children's birthday parties and other events for the kiddies, there are times reserved for walk-ins. Mondays from 10a-Noon is open jump for all ages.     Huenke Park is a nice green space set in southwest Lubbock. The park has three different memorials, all visually stimulating and are a good mix of history, beauty, and the future. The Veterans Memorial pays tribute to people who have participated in the armed services. Meanwhile, there is a statue depicting Willie McCool who was a pilot for NASA who died in the space shuttle Columbia after carrying out numerous experiments in space. The third monument is actually a fountain which features varying colored lights at night for a pleasant sight.

    Black-tailed prairie dogs are a keystone species crucial to ecosystems throughout the western United States, from Texas in the South to Wyoming up north. But nowhere do these herbivorous little critters rule the roost more supremely than down at Prairie Dog Town, a prairie dog sanctuary in the heart of Lubbock's venerable Mackenzie Park. Begun as a modest endeavor in the 1930s, Prairie Dog Town has seen its share of excitement over the years, what with the naming of Mayor Emeritus Kennedy Clapp, the installation of prairie dog Prairie Dog Pete as official Goodwill Ambassador, and, in 2004 and 2005, an epic renovation that resulted in perimeter fencing AND interpretive signage! Admission is free.
