The St. Mary's Episcopal Church is a historic church located in Asheville, North Carolina. This Anglo-Catholic parish was built in 1914 by architects Chauncey Beadle and Richard S. Smith and features Late Gothic Revival style architecture, with statues adorning the exterior red brick walls. The church building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
The Overlook Castle is a splendid piece of art that adorns the hill top. Built in 1914, it encompasses an area of 6 acres (2.4 hectares). The intimidating structure of the basilica is inspired by the Spanish Baroque style of architecture. The interiors of the church are equally mesmerising. Several statues of saints make the interiors enchanting, thereby giving the basilica an ancient feel. Thomas Wolfe, one of the greatest Southern literary icons, once lived here. See the home that Thomas Wolfe grew up in and depicted in his famous novel, Look Homeward, Angel. Though damaged by arson in 1998, much has been restored to the delight of visitors. There are guided tours, trails, outdoor exhibits, monuments, a visitor's center and a gift shop. Each fall, the Thomas Wolfe Festival is held here as well.
