The foundations of the Mars Hill University were laid in 1856 when the French Broad Baptist Institute was established. The organization expanded considerably in the period from 1897 to 1938 during Dr. Robert Moore's term with the university. Since August 2013 the institute is officially recognized as the Mars Hill University. Graham Martin, John S. Battle, Lacy Thornburg, Freddie Combs are few of the many notable students of this institute.

The St. Luke's Episcopal Church is a historic church located in Asheville, North Carolina. It was built in 1894 by E. J. Armstrong and is an excellent example of Carpenter Gothic architecture. The tiny wooden church features a somewhat pedimented porch and a church bell. The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

The Basilica of St. Lawrence is a minor basilica which stands tall in the downtown neighborhood of Ashville. Established in 1906 it is said to have the greatest dome in the entire of North America. The intimidating structure of the basilica is inspired by the Spanish Baroque style of architecture. The interiors of the church are equally mesmerising.
