Home Away From Home Tour Featuring: Brother Ali
    The CrocodileSeptember 23, 2014 8:00 PM
    2200 Second Avenue
    Seattle, WA 98121
For better or worse, most people know Brother Ali because of his albinism. This characteristic has somewhat defined him, but it does nothing to bespeak the music that he creates. The white rapper is an easily recognizable figure, though, and his condition helps to elevate the talented lyricist, who often dabbles in politically-charged rhymes, above the myriad of other rappers out there.

Town Music Concert Series: 5-show Subscription
Great Hall at Town HallSeptember 23, 2014 6:00 PM
    1119 8h Avenue
    Seattle, WA 98101
Joshua Roman, former principal cellist with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and Town Music Artistic Director, has put together an exciting and eclectic lineup for the 2014-15 season, which includes genre-busting groups like the pop-classical NOW Ensemble, new music specialists the Deviant Septet, the "hard-grooving" Third Coast Percussion and more. This five-show subscription package gets you access to all of these cool concerts. Roman, who's been called "a cellist of extraordinary technical and musical gifts" by the "San Francisco Chronicle" kicks off the action himself, with Lithuanian pianist Andrius Zlabys, on a series of piano quartets by Brahms, Timo Andres and Yevgeniy Sharlat. But you'll hear great compositions from a wide variety of modern composers over the course of the concert series, including John Cage, Esa Pekka Salonen, Derek Bermel and a finale featuring John Adams' contemporary classic "Shaker Loops". Please see the full event description for the schedule.

Town Music artistic director and acclaimed cellist Joshua Roman teams with Grammy-nominated pianist Andrius Zlabys to kick off the season's exciting series of contemporary classical concerts. Yet to turn 30, Andres is one of the hottest talents working today, having won the prestigious ASCAP Young Composer Award in 2013. Lithuanian pianist Zlabys is also a prize-winner, taking home the honor from the Cleveland International Piano Competition, while Roman is the former principal cellist of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, and as the "San Francisco Chronicle" raves, "a cellist of extraordinary technical and musical gifts."
