»Computer Science For Elementary School With Code.org

March 31, 2015 9:00 AM

Code.org has developed a free elementary school curriculum that allows even the youngest students to explore the limitless world of computing. The courses blend online, self-guided and self-paced tutorials with unpluggedactivities that require no computer at all. Each course consists of about 20 lessons that may be implemented as one unit or over the course of a semester. Even kindergarten-aged pre-readers can participate. The workshops is designed for K-5 educators and content-area teachers (librarians, tech-ed specialists, etc.) interested in teaching the Code.org elementary school computer science curriculum. The workshop will cover content for all three courses and teachers will receive resources they need to teach the course.      Because of unprofessional behavior by past registrants, we are announcing the following policy: You must arrive at least 10 minutes before the class start time to sign in and find a seat. If you arrive more than 30 minutes late, you will be turned away and your supervisor will be notified (except when there is a weather emergency or significant MTA delay/shutdown). If you are unable to attend a class, visit http://www.eventbrite.com/mytickets and cancel your registration. If you are unsure about your plans or are unable to update the Eventbrite registration, please email tech@schools.nyc.gov at least 48 hours before the class start time.  If you are absent without advance notice, we will notify your supervisor. We may also require your supervisors approval for future registration for professional learning opportunities or deny you permission to register.
