    Anybody staying in the west end near Pearson International Airport and looking for a round has two rather distinct choices: the legendary and expensive Royal Woodbine, or this executive 18-hole par. There is a licensed clubhouse, snack bar, pro shop, driving range and chipping and putting greens. There is also mini-putt and video games for the kids.

    »Woodbine Racetrack

    Located on the northwestern edge of Toronto and not far from Pearson International Airport, this has become one of North America's best horse-racing venues, the only one where both thoroughbreds and standardbreds can be raced on the same day. Woodbine hosts the Queen's Plate, the oldest continuously run stakes race in North America, its initial run took place in 1860 and the only North American race that enjoys a prize from Queen Elizabeth II.

    Opened in 1974, Scarlett Woods Golf Course plays gentle enough for the beginner yet possesses tricky greens and water to make it a challenge for the low handicapper. From the white (back) tees the yardage is paced off at 3,749 and the par is 62. As the course is devoid of par fives, perhaps it might be best to leave the big dog in the trunk. There is a washroom/change room, a licensed restaurant and pro shop complete with club rentals.
