The Expendables is a band bred from the skate, surf, and party ethos of music made popular in the late 1990s by bands from Orange County, Long Beach and Santa Cruz. The group's releases are laden with upbeat beach grooves, but with a biting ska edge. Fittingly, the Santa Cruz band signed to Stoopid Records, owned by the band Slighty Stoopid, in the early 2000s.

Formed in 1995, the Santa Cruz-based rockabilly outfit The Chop Tops combines its punk, surf and pyschobilly influences to create a brand of upbeat rebel music it calls "Revved-Up Rockabilly." Lead singer and stand-up drummer Sinner formed the band after playing in several San Francisco acts and deciding that rockabilly came most naturally to him. Along with a single guitarist and a stand-up bassist, Sinner has managed to turn The Chop Tops into a longstanding act that has headlined its own national tours and shared the stage with artists such as the Dead Kennedys, John Lee Hooker and Chuck Berry. Since the release of its debut album, Revved-Up Rockabilly in 1997, the band has released five other studio albums including its 2010 effort, Deadly Love.
