Crafting his own brand of alternative hip-hop with unexpected threads of pop, jazz, indie rock and reggae, Forrest Day introduced himself to the Bay Area music scene with his self-titled EP in 2006. Based in Oakland, he put together his own outfit made up of keyboardist Nick Wyner, guitarist Terrell Liedstrand, bassist John Sankey and drummer Jasper Sky Decker. With Day on lead vocals and alto saxophone, the band released its eponymous full-length album, its first record as a proper collective, on Ninth Street Opus in 2010, capturing a national following and eventually a recording deal with Breaking Bands LLC.

Santa Cruz, CA 95063
Existing in two incarnations, The English Beat, or in the UK, simply The Beat, is a ska revival band(s) formed in England in 1978. With a focus on fusing two-tone, reggae, punk and new wave, the band(s) created a sound that was very unique at the time of its formation. Though the band released three hit albums that were well received in the UK, Australia and parts of the US, the group(s) broke up in 1983. Years later, in 2005, the band(s) decided to reform with most of the original members, and since then, both incarnations have toured throughout its respective countries.
