Even though the Gainesville, Florida based nu-punk rock act Against Me! first started making music in 1997, it wasn't until 2007 that the band really rose to prominence. The band might receive a good amount of flack for sounding a bit too much like its pop punk peers, but the band's no-nonsense instrumental assault proves that the band is more than just a bunch of teenage whiners.

With a sound that incorporates Blues with catchy, melody-driven guitar rock, Built to Spill has carved out a reputation for itself as one of the more noteworthy bands of the 2000s. During its formative years, the band shuffled around musical styles for period of time until it finally arrived at its characteristic sound. The band's first album, Ultimate Alternative Wavers, was released in 1993 and a few years later, Perfect From Now On was released worldwide to critical acclaim, helping the group build a dedicated fan base.

There are very few bands that are able to get away with being as weird as Man Man. The group's sound is extremely strange and ranges from pirate singalongs to instrumental progressive rock, with all of the members of the band typically wearing off-kilter matching clothing--with matching face paint sometimes, too. The band is comprised of a set of true performers though, and each night's show is entirely unique to the evening it is performed upon.

Emma Ruth Rundle is a singer songwriter and musician who is known for experimenting with droning electronic textures and folk music. Though she rose to recognition for her work as the guitarist of Red Sparowes and the vocalist and guitarist of Marriages and The Nocturnes, she struck her solo career with the release of her debut record Electric Guitar One, in 2014. The EP exposed her ambient folk for the first time and established her as an artist in her own right. Rundle dropped her first full-length LP, titled Some Heavy Ocean, later the same year and subsequently captured an international audience with her experimental compositions and gentle vocals.

Though typically placed under the wide-reaching umbrella of heavy metal, Boris tries its best to make its eclectic music void of easy pigeonholing. Upon its formation in Japan in 1992, the band was heavily inspired by experimental metal pioneers such as The Melvins, a band whose song provided Boris with its name. The group's two guitarists, Takeshi and Wata, are metal shredders in the classic vein, capable of adapting to seemingly any incarnation of the genre, from doom and sludge, to speed and thrash. It's the sonic diversions, however, that make Boris an always noteworthy band to follow. The three-piece will often devote sections, songs or whole albums to distinctly un-metal experiments in psychedelic rock, avant-garde noise or ethereal ambient music. The ability to indulge in its disparate wealth of influences while retaining an overall identity all its own has helped Boris earn the cult metal status it no doubt deserves.
